Overthrowing Fear in a Time of Crisis

As fear about the coronavirus spreads, markets tumble, and panic buying spikes, as Christians we need to remember who we are and whose we are. One of our values at Tapestry Church is Overthrowing Fear. It’s a value because time and time again throughout Scripture, God tells his people in no uncertain terms, “Do not fear!”

Now, this is not the same as pretending there’s no danger, or being in denial. As Christians, our fearlessness is not foolishness. We look at the danger head on and accept the reality of it.

BUT, we know that we have a God who is bigger than any realities that we face. We have a God who loves us with an unrelenting love. We have a God who says to us,

“SO DO NOT FEAR, FOR I AM WITH YOU;
    DO NOT BE DISMAYED, FOR I AM YOUR GOD.
I WILL STRENGTHEN YOU AND HELP YOU;
    I WILL UPHOLD YOU WITH MY RIGHTEOUS RIGHT HAND.” (ISA. 41:10)

As we shelter in place, let us live from a deep confidence that the God to whom we belong is in control, and he has claimed us as his own.
